The Borg, still remian a great mystery to Sratfleet, The Federation, and all other Empires of our universe. I remember Guinin saying that the borg has existed for "Thousands of generations" which would make them a few hundred thousand years old, if not more. I don't even believe Guinin's people know exactly where the Borg came from.
Did they start off as biological humanoids like us, w/ a civilization that grew too advanced? Were they pure machines at one point? Perhaps like our idea of Te Matrix or Terminators, machines that grew beyond the creators control?
A friend of mine has an interesting theory, of course there is NO way to prove this, and it is far fetched, but interesting enough to share. .. .
"Well, the running theory in my family is that in "Evolution," when Wesley's nanites evolved and the crew found a planet for them to live on, the planet (or, at least, the nanites) were tossed 200,000 years back in time (or found some way to travel there intentionally) and began joining with biological organisms as the natural next stage of their evolution. The nanites took physical and psychological control of the organisms and used them as tools for communication, construction, etc. much like how they temporarily took over Commander Data.
I mean, there're just too many similarities between Wesley's nanites and the Borg. A collective consciousness, the drive to evolve, the ability to adapt quickly, nanotechnology as their fundamental mechanism...
In short, Wesley created the Borg."
Don't know if I agree with it, but it is interesting. I, for one, have no theories on where the borg came from, as anything is possable.
